Life at sea. 🐟
Commercial fishing is a really tough job and industry. All our boats are fishing into Christmas and the New Year to bring in fish for our customers 🎄Thank you to everyone that understands the complexities of wild caught fishing and the effort it takes from all involved to put sustainable, wild caught, Australian fish on your plate.
And thank you to all the chefs posting photos and videos of our fish and the amazing way they prepare it. 😊 🐟 We love that ❤️

Community Service Announcement 🐟🎅🏼

Silly season is upon us and we fish right through Christmas and the New Year to get fish out there to our wonderful chefs, wholesalers and retailers. However demand increases substantially and supply gets tight for our fish so please talk with your wholesaler sooner rather than later to let them know your requirements for our fish. 🐟👍🏻

Nobody takes tuna as seriously as the Japanese. 🐟💪🏻
Tuna is king in Japan and Pavo and I met with our Japanese agent at 5am this morning to see the world famous Tokyo tuna auction where our fish get sold.
Tourists are banned from the auction floor however we had the red carpet rolled out for us as always. Our agent said ‘you are special’ which makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside 😁. So we headed down to the auction floor past the ‘non special tourists’ with sad looks on their faces. 😭
The Toyosu Market is a massive building with endless, gleaming, long corridors. The auction floor is gigantic with hundreds of fresh and frozen tuna from around the world being graded and auctioned. I am the only woman in there 😁
The auction is fast, loud and taken extremely seriously. The auctioneers do an amazing job and I don’t know how they get the auction done so fast with such order and precision. But of course they can because this is Japan where order and precision rule.
After the auction we are taken by the owner of the company to eat sushi and drink beer at 6.30am in the morning. There is no choice and I was so full from being taken out for wagyu grill dinner the night before that I didn’t know how I could fit it in. But fit it in I did. I just kept saying, ‘go Heidi, you can do it’ and the sushi and beers kept coming and coming and coming. And I kept shoveling it all in my mouth 💪🏻😝 We did Australia proud 🇦🇺 The Japanese were very impressed with how much we could eat and drink. The owner of the restaurant was so impressed she gave us gifts when we left.
Once finished we waddled out of there, said goodbye to Takuyu san, bowing many times and headed back to the hotel for a lie down. 😎🇯🇵
